May 27 is a day filled with smiles, laughter, and celebration. At the Dawn of Life Foundation (DOLF), we believe it is also an opportunity to protect the future of every child.
This year, as Nigeria celebrated Children’s Day during the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week, DOLF took the celebration beyond fun and entertainment. Our team visited Millennium Park, Abuja, where children and families had gathered to mark the special day, transforming the occasion into an opportunity to promote healthier futures through education, awareness, and early disease prevention.
Children are the heartbeat of every community. Their health today determines the strength of our society tomorrow. Yet many children continue to face preventable health challenges simply because families lack access to accurate health information and essential services.
That is why our team was there.

Where Celebration Met Purpose
The atmosphere at Millennium Park was filled with excitement. Children laughed, played, and enjoyed the activities around them while parents and carers came together to celebrate one of the most important days dedicated to children.
Amid the celebration, the DOLF team engaged families in meaningful conversations about child health, with a special focus on childhood tuberculosis (TB).
Many people are surprised to learn that children can develop TB. Even more concerning is that the signs are often overlooked or mistaken for other illnesses, delaying diagnosis and treatment.
Through interactive health education sessions, our volunteers helped parents and caregivers understand:
- The signs and symptoms of Childhood TB.
- Why early detection is critical.
- How TB can be prevented and treated.
- The importance of seeking medical care without delay.
These conversations may have lasted only a few minutes, but they have the potential to protect lives for years to come.
Why Childhood TB Awareness Matters
Tuberculosis remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases, and children are among those most vulnerable.
When families understand the symptoms early, children can receive timely diagnosis and treatment, reducing complications and preventing further spread within households and communities.
Awareness is often the first step toward saving a life.
Every parent who leaves with better knowledge becomes an advocate for healthier children.
Every child protected represents hope for a stronger future.
More Than a One-Day Event
For DOLF, Children’s Day is not simply another event on the calendar.
It reflects our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and able to reach their full potential.
By integrating Childhood TB awareness into the celebration, we demonstrated that health education can happen anywhere—in parks, schools, churches, marketplaces, and communities.
When healthcare reaches people where they are, barriers begin to disappear.
Building Healthier Communities Together
This outreach forms part of DOLF’s broader commitment to strengthening community health systems through health education, disease prevention, early screening, and community engagement.
Across communities in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State, our teams continue to work alongside health authorities, local leaders, schools, and community members to ensure that lifesaving health information reaches those who need it most.
Every outreach strengthens trust.
Every conversation inspires action.
Every community reached brings us one step closer to ending preventable diseases.
Looking Ahead
The smiles we witnessed at Millennium Park remind us why this work matters.
Healthy children become healthy adults.
Healthy families build stronger communities.
Stronger communities create a healthier nation.
While we celebrate the impact made during this year’s Children’s Day and MNCH Week activities, we know there are still many children and communities waiting to be reached.
That is why DOLF remains committed to expanding our community-based health interventions and ensuring that no one is left behind.
